Chapter 1605 - 1604: Treatment
Chapter 1605 - 1604: Treatment
"I'm going to count to three. If you don't open the door, I'll break it down and come in."Tang Rao feared Bei Lin might do something drastic inside. Even if Bei Lin were to hit him or refuse to forgive him, it was okay, as long as she wouldn't keep herself locked away, preventing him from seeing her.
No response, right? Still no response, Tang Rao charged at the door. Just as he was about to reach it, the door suddenly opened by itself, revealing an aged, weathered face before his eyes.
"How does it feel? Seeing me like this, you must be very disappointed, right?"
Bei Lin's hair was draped over her shoulders; what once was jet-black, beautiful long hair, had turned white overnight. Her face was lined with deep wrinkles, accentuating her age, even she couldn't accept her current appearance, let alone expect Tang Rao to.
That's fine; Tang Rao can lose hope, and Bei Lin can no longer hold out hope for him!
"At least you're willing to come out. I'm not disappointed. Just being able to see you is enough for me."
Tang Rao rushed into the room where Bei Lin was, preventing her from locking herself inside again.
"I'm so ugly that even children think they've seen a ghost when they look at me. What's the use in looking at me? These scars won't heal; my aging is inevitable. Don't worry, I never dared to hope for your love, nor will I use past promises to threaten you. You are you, I am me, we can still leave each other undisturbed, living our own lives."
Every word Bei Lin spoke was like a stab in her heart, the blood flowing as fiercely as her pain echoed in her chest.
Tang Rao wouldn't let Bei Lin say such things anymore. A woman willing to give up her appearance, her life, deserved his cherishing. Agreeing to her terms now would make him less than human.
"Impossible. You had best give up on that thought right now – I will not abandon you."
Tang Rao held Bei Lin tightly during her emotional peak. This was their first embrace, and both silently acknowledged it was not a mere friendly hug.
"No matter what you become, I can accept you, just as you'd risk everything to save me with what you believe is adventurous yet promising. There are some fates we should cherish, Bei Lin, shouldn't we?"
Indeed, some fates need to be cherished. Back on the West Island, Wu Suowei had mentioned to Tang Rao he would end up with the daughter of each Island Master, though he hadn't explicitly revealed the Heavenly Mechanism to him. Previously, Tang Rao hadn't fully believed he couldn't control his own life, but now it seemed those invisible hands had become visible, more openly manipulating his life.
Bei Lin had no idea about the deep fears within Tang Rao's heart. Sometimes, all a vulnerable woman needs is a hug. Once embraced by Tang Rao, her heart clung to him completely, unable to settle back down.
Tang Rao, seeing Bei Lin calm, took her out of the room to introduce her to Wen Jinjin.
The commotion inside was so loud that it was hard for Wen Jinjin not to have heard it from outside. Seeing them come out with smiles, Wen Jinjin rarely smiled at them, approaching them warmly.
"It's a small world; I didn't expect you to know Bei Lin."
These words were supposed to be said by Tang Rao, yet Wen Jinjin voiced them first.
Tang Rao's face reddened, "Indeed, Jin Jin, you don't know how exhausting it was looking for you when you weren't around!"
Tang Rao searched for Wen Jinjin first, then Bei Lin. To find Wen Jinjin, he reviewed all his surveillance records in the Divine Realm, only to find nothing. She disappeared from the footage without a trace. Tang Rao thought he would never see Wen Jinjin again, but unexpectedly, while looking for Bei Lin, he stumbled across her. He was so surprised he didn't know what to say.
"Didn't I leave a letter telling you not to look for me? I'm not worthy of you. Just bringing me from the Land of Immortals was a gift. I've never dared to hope for more, as long as you and the sisters are well, I'm willing to give up anything."
Bei Lin had just stopped crying, and now Wen Jinjin began to shed tears, as if Tang Rao's presence only brought sorrow to women.
"Don't say such silly things. You, Bei Lin, and all your sisters, I won't give up on any of you. By the way, some major changes happened at home; I'll explain everything later. But before we go back, there are two things I need to clarify, and I hope you'll tell me the truth."
Two things; first, whether Wen Jinjin had a way to treat Bei Lin's aging condition.
Second, how Wen Jinjin, once ignorant of medicine, quickly became a Divine Doctor. Tang Rao needed a reasonable explanation from Wen Jinjin.
Tang Rao brought up these points, Wen Jinjin's face flushed red. She didn't really know how to give a reasonable explanation, for sometimes, encountering good fortune is a matter of luck, and such things are inherently unreasonable. How could she explain it to Tang Rao?
"I can try with Bei Lin's aging condition, it shouldn't be a problem, though it might be tough on her. If there are no objections, we can start the treatment today. As for how I acquired medical skills, let's just say I had a stroke of luck, suddenly absorbing all the knowledge, research, and everything from the Divine Doctor's life and Medicinal Material Storage."
Wen Jinjin never hid anything from Tang Rao. In the Divine Realm, Tang Rao was the most important person by Wen Jinjin's side, worthy of her reliance and trust.
Wen Jinjin said she encountered a stroke of luck, something Tang Rao never doubted, as he too had experienced good fortune, inexplicable occurrences. Some phenomena defy scientific explanation.
"I see, that's what I thought. Back when you were in the Kao Shan Sect, you were so lazy, there was no way you'd research those things yourself. It's good you inherited the Divine Doctor's legacy; it means he recognized you. Bei Lin's aging condition is now in your hands; if you need my help, just ask. Once cured, I'll lead you out of the Peach Blossom Paradise, back to the Kao Shan Sect."
Neither Bei Lin nor Wen Jinjin objected to Tang Rao's words. The only one itching to ask questions, who had long wanted to interrupt, was Li Qi.
Had he not feared interrupting their tender interaction would bring divine retribution, he would have intervened much sooner, waiting only until the end of their conversation to redirect Tang Rao's attention to him.
