It's really hard to just farm peacefully.

Chapter 366

Chapter 366

Jiang Yan accidentally discovered this fresh crop when he was buying vegetables from a farmer in the suburbs of Ping'an County on his way back.

At first they thought it was a carrot that had stopped growing. When the owner pulled one out and asked them if they wanted it, Jiang Yan waved his hands and refused.

She had never liked radishes since she was little, neither white nor red, as they always tasted odd. Yet, because of the scarcity of vegetable seeds in Rongcheng County, she had been eating them for years. But even though she'd gotten used to them, now that there were other vegetables to choose from in the fields, she naturally only bought the ones she liked.

While the host was picking vegetables in the garden, Jiang Yan and Chunying stood by and waited, chatting for a while.

When talking about the regret that the radishes in front of them were planted too densely and didn't grow well, the host couldn't help but laugh and interjected, "You two ladies must have made a mistake. What we grow here are not radishes but redroot vegetables, and we mainly eat the leaves."

Eating vegetable leaves? Jiang Yan, who was corrected for misidentifying the crop, was only embarrassed for a moment before curiously asking, "It's really not a radish? It looks similar. This is a local specialty, right? How does it taste? Can the red stems be eaten?"

"What's the flavor? It tastes like the leaves, but the water is bright red, very festive. The red pieces at the bottom taste better, slightly sweet, and a little floury after being cooked. Unfortunately, they're too small to fill you up."

Bright red... could it be a relative of red amaranth? Jiang Yan, upon hearing that it could produce red juice, took a closer look, but couldn't quite make it out. Chunying, curious, also took a closer look.

The host noticed that the two had regained interest, especially Jiang Yan, so he changed his mind and told them the story of how they bought the wrong radish seeds, sowed them, and when they grew, they found that they were not right, so they named them red root vegetables and kept them to this day.

By the time Jiang Yan left, all the snacks in the bag had turned into vegetable seeds, and a large bundle of red root vegetables was piled on the cart.

Guard Thirteen was a little surprised to hear that Jiang Yan did not rest after returning to his residence but was digging the soil and planting vegetables. Recalling the previous instructions of the steward, he quickened the pace of handling the matters at hand and then went to the door.

Chunying was distributing the food in the can to Jiang Yan and Tian Jiu who were staring at them eagerly. They had only eaten a few bites on their hurried way back, and now they were ready to eat something to fill their stomachs so that they would not wake up hungry in the middle of the night when they returned to the house to sleep.

"I heard that you found something new on this trip?" Thirteen had just stepped into the yard when he asked the question to the three people who were eating with relish.

What? Jiang Yan quickly sucked the last mouthful of soup from the bowl, then turned to look at the person who had come.

Thirteen asked again: "Can I see the new things you found?"

Something new... Chunying and the other two exchanged glances. Is there anything? Then they quickly realized, "Oh, they're talking about red root vegetables."

But the last bunch of red root vegetables I bought had just been put into the jar, and now the jar was empty. Looking at the other person’s bowl... there was not a single vegetable leaf left.

Thirteen saw that they were all exchanging glances without saying anything, and frowned, "Don't want to?"

"No, it's just that you came at an inopportune moment and all the redroot vegetables have just been eaten up." Chunying said after coming back to her senses.

"Redroot vegetables, what's the use?"

What is the use of it? Chunying was puzzled: "It can be eaten."

Thirteen wasn't satisfied with this answer. How could Jiang Yan give up her rest and plant the vegetables first when she could only eat something? He decided not to beat around the bush and directly called on Jiang Yan: "You tell me."

What? Jiang Yan looked at Thirteen blankly, then at Chunying.
