Chapter 1666 - 1667: Unfit to Be a Father

The city hospital was nearly an hour’s drive from the county. By the time the group reached the city, it was already afternoon, and they were famished. Cheng Su bought a few buns at a still-open bun shop, and they ate them to fill their stomachs before heading straight to the city’s largest hospital.

They were in luck, as just upon entering the hospital entrance, they spotted Zhang Jisheng walking hunched over with a plastic bag.

"Zhang Jisheng, you bastard!" Qi Jianguo strode over with two steps and grabbed his collar, delivering a punch.

Zhang Jisheng was stunned from the punch, and when he saw the group, his heart sank, and his eyes flickered.

"Where’s Baobao? Where did you take him?" Cheng Su grabbed the furious Qi Jianguo and asked.

Zhang Jisheng lowered his head and silently picked up the buns beside his feet, stuffing them back into the plastic bag.

"I’m asking you; are you mute?" Qi Jianguo angrily kicked him again.

Zhang Jisheng stood up with his head lowered and said, "In the ward."

"You..."

"Come on, take us there!" Cheng Su gave him a push, feeling sour and heavy inside.

Zhang Jisheng walked ahead, feeling unlucky. The Qi family had arrived too quickly.

At the ward he mentioned, there were several beds. On one bed lay a child with pipes sticking out, his head shaved, face pale. Zhang Jisheng’s wife, Lai Jinlan, sat by his bedside, watching the child.

Further inside, another child lay there, equally pale, with his small face scrunched up. Who else could it be but Baobao?

"Baobao!" Qi Fengping shrieked and rushed over, her face drained of color.

Cheng Su also walked over, her calves trembling slightly.

"What did you do? What did you do to him? Scum, you scum!" Qi Jianguo started punching and kicking Zhang Jisheng.

Lai Jinlan screamed, aiding Zhang Jisheng, and a big commotion ensued.

Shortly after, doctors and nurses rushed over upon hearing the noise, shouting, "What’s going on? This is a hospital, not a market! Keep it quiet. If you want to fight, do it outside; don’t disturb other patients."

"Doctor, how is my grandson?" Father Qi, his face pale, grabbed the doctor’s hand and asked.

Cheng Su also stopped the fighting Jianguo and looked at the doctor, asking, "Doctor, what’s going on with the child? Why isn’t he waking up?"

The doctor, seeing they had calmed down, cursed a few times before walking over, taking the chart, and said, "It’s nothing serious, just some bloodwork for a bone marrow match..."

"You bastard! I’m going to kill you, you bastard!" Qi Jianguo’s eyes turned red upon hearing this, and he lunged forward to fight again.

Cheng Su was shaking with anger.

"Doctor, who consented to this? The guardian wasn’t here. How could you proceed so recklessly?" She coldly glared at the doctor and demanded.

Since the court had already awarded guardianship of the child to Qi Fenglian, she was logically the guardian. Now that the guardian wasn’t present, how could the hospital perform such a procedure on Xiao Bao so rashly?

"Isn’t he the child’s father?" the doctor’s face slightly changed.

"He’s no father. He’s not worthy of being a father, nor is he even human!" Father Qi glared furiously at Zhang Jisheng.

Zhang Jisheng hung his head low, not daring to speak.

Lai Jinlan, recognizing the unfavorable situation, also stayed silent, shrinking into a corner.

As they were at a stalemate, Xiao Bao on the bed let out a groan and then cried loudly.

Cheng Su and the others rushed over, calling out, "Xiao Bao, Xiao Bao!"

"Waaa, it hurts, Xiao Bao hurts..." Xiao Bao cried out.

Cheng Su’s eyes immediately reddened.
