Chapter 29 Why Didn't She Save You?
Chapter 29 Why Didn't She Save You?
"Zhang Tian, how did you get so sick?"
At this moment, Xie Wenyao walked to the bedside and looked at me with a worried expression.
Life is truly amazing.
The person who led the way in isolating me with passive-aggressive behavior is now sitting by my bedside, asking about my condition.
The person I cherished most treated me coldly and showed no concern whatsoever.
"Yes, how did I become so sick?"
I forced a bitter smile, watching the fallen leaves blown away by the cold wind outside, as if I could see my own end.
"Does Song Yafei know how seriously ill you are?"
Xie Wenyao frowned, realizing how ridiculous her words were only after she finished speaking.
Song Yafei and I are husband and wife, how could she not know about my health condition?
"With Yafei's connections, she should be able to find the most authoritative experts to treat you. How could she let your health deteriorate to this point?"
Seeing her hesitant expression, I figured she must have already found out about my condition from the doctor, so I didn't want to explain further. I just said in a very soft voice, "Maybe it's because of revenge."
"Revenge? You two..."
"Don't you already know? I abandoned her when she was at her lowest point. She's been holding a grudge all these years. Our marriage was just her way of getting revenge."
Thinking about the humiliations Song Yafei has caused me over the years, all I can feel is desolation and bleakness.
Although I was forced into it back then, even if I told Song Yafei, she would only think I was just being glib and wouldn't believe me at all.
Perhaps, we will live with this misunderstanding until I die and the debt is settled.
Seeing me like this, Xie Wenyao couldn't speak for a long time. She just looked sadly at the falling leaves outside the window with me.
As dusk fell, her phone rang, breaking the silence in the room.
Xie Wenyao glanced at her phone, hung up, and frowned as she looked at me.
“Zhang Tian, if Song Yafei won’t save you, I can introduce you to a very outstanding expert. He’s one of the best in the world when it comes to tumors.”
Who doesn't want to live a few more years?
But can Xie Wenyao really be that kind?
I don't believe that someone who has no relation to me would suddenly become friendly and help me without any reason.
"I'm penniless and have nothing, why would you help me?"
"As I said, it's because I value talent."
"However, I didn't help you for no reason. I helped you find a doctor this time, so you owe me a favor, which you'll have to repay later."
Xie Wenyao raised her chin, revealing the familiar arrogant smile she used to have.
This time, however, I didn't feel disgusted; instead, I was filled with gratitude towards her.
Someone like me, who has no power, fame, or money, what favor could a rich young lady like her possibly ask me for?
It's just a way to find a reason for me to accept this kindness.
But the nicer she was to me, the more uneasy I felt, as if something was not quite right.
Seeing that I didn't reply for a long time, Xie Wenyao could only type a reply quickly while saying to me, "Don't feel too guilty. I definitely won't let you do anything bad to repay a favor."
"I know."
"Anyway, you've already signed a contract with me, and we'll be colleagues from now on. We'll have plenty of time to meet. If you've made up your mind, just let me know anytime, and I'll arrange a doctor for you."
"Thank you."
Xie Wenyao put away her phone and smiled at me, "You should focus on getting better first. You can come back to the studio when you're fully recovered. I have something to do, so I'll be leaving now."
"it is good."
Seeing her rushing away with great speed, I smiled helplessly.
A moment later, the door was pushed open again, and Xie Wenyao poked her head out with a slightly apologetic look, saying, "By the way, we don't have each other's contact information yet."
She waved her phone, quickly exchanged phone numbers with me, and then hurriedly left.
The chances of curing my illness are very low; I might suddenly pass away any day.
If I owe too many favors, how will I repay them after I'm gone? Wouldn't that be betraying my friends?
After much deliberation, I decided to work first and save enough money before asking Xie Wenyao to recommend a doctor.
During my hospital stay, I read through the introduction of Professor Xie's studio countless times.
I repeatedly examined their designs and mentally rewrote them in my own way.
The more this happens, the more I yearn to return to the workplace, pick up my paintbrush, and show everyone my abilities.
So, disregarding the doctor's advice, I couldn't wait to be discharged early once I had recovered somewhat and stopped vomiting.
Of course, this so-called "discharge" was actually me sneaking away.
Otherwise, given Song Yafei's personality, I would definitely have been forcibly taken back to the villa by her people, and she would have resolutely prevented me from going to work at the studio.
After leaving the hospital, I took a taxi back to Xu Hu's rented room.
But as soon as I went upstairs, I heard a few loud bangs, as if something heavy had been thrown to the ground.
"Get out of here right now, you piece of trash! I've had the worst luck in eight lifetimes to run into a poor bastard like you."
"I bother!"
A middle-aged woman with a head full of rice-fried buns walked downstairs, cursing loudly in a shrill voice.
As she passed by me, she didn't move aside and rudely bumped into my shoulder.
"Get out of the way, are you blind?!"
"hiss!"
The violent impact brought tears to my eyes and nearly made me fall. Luckily, I grabbed the stair railing and managed to keep my balance.
The old woman glared at me with disgust and spat on the ground. "Damn it, what bad luck, I've run into another sick and dead ghost."
Being called a sick ghost makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable.
But a good man doesn't fight with a woman, and adhering to the principle of avoiding trouble, I chose to back down and step aside.
Xu Hu gave me an awkward, wry smile.
"I'm sorry, Brother Tian, I've been kicked out by the landlord."
Seeing Xu Hu's appearance, I felt extremely guilty.
If I still had money, Bissau could help him through this difficult time.
But I have nothing now!
I can't even afford a month's rent.
Seeing me lower my head, Xu Hu guessed my predicament and came over to comfort me.
"Brother Tian, don't blame yourself."
“When Sasha had her accident, everyone contributed all the money they could, and I also lost my job, which is why this happened.”
Xu Hu scratched his head somewhat awkwardly.
"I feel a little sorry for you, because I made it so that you had nowhere to stay with me."
At this point, his eyes suddenly reddened, and his voice choked with emotion.
To hide the tears welling in his eyes, Xu Hu quickly turned his head away and said in a thick nasal voice, "Brother Tian, that batch of goods and the truck have been seized... I may face hefty compensation payments, I'm so sorry..."
