Chapter 259 Awakening
Chapter 259 Awakening
"This is a very good spot." Shen Li was helped up the last few steps, and was still a little unsteady on her feet, so she asked, "How is my husband?"
"We have already settled the master in the cave, but he is still not awake and shows signs of fever," the personal servant said.
"Crush these into pieces and bring them to me." Shen Li leaned on the arm of a guard, catching her breath before she could stand up.
"Madam, we have just hunted a deer, but it is inconvenient to start a fire. Would you like to eat it raw?"
Shen Li frowned slightly upon hearing this, then shook her head: "Let's make a fire, roast it, and everyone can have a good meal."
"Isn't that a bad idea, Madam? The pursuers will catch up," the servant said worriedly.
"Looking at all these footprints on the mountain, it's not impossible for them to catch up. Why don't you give me some nourishment?" Shen Li said as she walked into the cave. "With the crossbows set up, I don't believe they can bring the cannons."
As Shen Li entered the cave, she saw Gu Chang'an lying on the ground covered with weeds. Although it was better than sleeping directly on the ground, it was still difficult to escape the cold.
Gu Chang'an's face was pale with a slight flush, and her weakness made her look like a sculpture about to break, which made her heart clench with pain. She stepped forward and touched her forehead, which was already slightly warm, indicating that she was about to have a fever.
She frowned deeply, determined not to let her find out who did it; even if it was the King of Heaven himself, she would make that person pay with their life.
She was worried that he would catch a cold again and wanted to pull him onto her body, but then her vision went black again, so she had to lie down next to him to rest.
"Madam, the medicine has been crushed. Here are some wild fruits and water we picked. This is deer blood; I'll feed some to the master." A moment later, the servant came in.
The servant was carrying a freshly peeled and cleaned deerskin. The guards helped Gu Chang'an up and spread the deerskin under him.
"Leave it to me." Shen Li took the deer blood, which was held in a hollowed-out tree trunk.
These people clearly had wilderness experience; she even received a very smooth wooden cup.
Logically, someone so weak shouldn't drink deer blood, but since there's nothing else around, I can only feed them a little bit.
Shen Li then helped him up and fed him with a cup, but Gu Chang'an was unconscious and unable to open his mouth or swallow. The blood on his chin made his skin appear even whiter and more like porcelain.
She secretly regretted her oversight, tilted her head back and drank the deer blood, then leaned down to kiss his lips.
The servant immediately turned his head away, retracting his step that was about to step forward to help, and then quickly turned around and walked out as quietly as possible.
Shen Li has always been a clean person, and she absolutely cannot accept blood. Otherwise, she wouldn't have preferred to expose her position by the fire to eat cooked meat.
But none of that entered her thoughts at the moment; she had only one thought: to save Gu Chang'an.
The bloody smell spread in his mouth, and the taste was not pleasant. She fed him a few mouthfuls to make sure he had drunk some before stopping.
Call ~
She tried to wipe his mouth with her clothes, only to find that she was covered in large patches of blood, even more than the blood on his lips.
Having no other choice, I tore off a piece, washed it with water, and then helped him clean his face.
She couldn't help but smile, then diluted the crushed medicine with water, intending to feed it to him in the same way later. The most urgent thing was to treat his wound.
From the bleeding spots, we can see that there are wounds on his arm and leg. Upon closer inspection, we can see that they are not caused by stones, but rather abrasions. It is likely that he hit a sharp-edged stone while rolling on the ground after getting off the carriage.
She felt much more at ease, washed the wound with clean water, applied medicine, and then bandaged it with her own washed clothes.
A soft groan came from behind him, sounding hoarse from being unconscious for so long.
Shen Li looked over in surprise and saw Gu Chang'an wincing in pain, his eyelids twitching as he slowly opened his eyes.
His obsidian eyes still shone brightly in the dimly lit cave, but they no longer held the sharp or gentle gaze of the past; instead, they were filled with confusion.
"Husband, you're awake. How are you feeling?" For the first time, Shen Li's face, which had been gloomy for who knows how long, showed a hopeful smile, as bright as the spring sun.
"Ah Li?" Gu Chang'an didn't have time to look around before his gaze focused on Shen Li's face, his voice filled with doubt.
“It’s me.” Shen Li squeezed his cold hand: “Husband, don’t be afraid, I’m here.”
"Ah Li." Gu Chang'an grasped her hand in return. Although he hadn't figured out what had happened, he smiled when he saw her. "It's good that you're here. I missed you so much."
His voice was very soft; if Shen Li hadn't had such good hearing, she wouldn't have been able to hear it at all.
Shen Li fed him medicine and a little hot water. Gu Chang'an was like a mindless doll, letting her do as she pleased, only looking at her face.
However, as he gradually regained his senses, his expression became complicated. Looking at the cave and then at Shen Li covered in blood, he also remembered the landslide he had encountered.
"Ah Li." His voice trembled with nervousness as he gripped Shen Li's hand tightly. "It's dangerous here. How could you come? You should leave now."
"How can I walk if you're holding my hand?" Shen Li found it both funny and heartbreaking to see him getting nervous.
A moment of hesitation and difficulty appeared on Gu Chang'an's face, probably because he did not fully understand the situation. He wanted A Li to leave, but he was reluctant to let go.
Before he could make a decision, Shen Li stopped teasing him and instead took his hand, saying, "Don't worry, husband, now that I'm here, everything's alright. I'll protect you."
Gu Chang'an paused again, seemingly before he fully regained his senses, and asked, "Someone came to kill me?"
"To be precise, they want to kill us. I fell out with the Crown Prince in Kyoto, and now they've provided evidence of Zhou Zhen's treason. These two hate me to death," Shen Li said casually.
"They dare!" Gu Chang'an's eyes turned cold. He didn't want to let him return to the capital alive, otherwise he would show the Crown Prince's faction how cruel officials handled cases in this Zhou Zhen case.
Anyone who dares to touch his Ah Li is asking for death.
"Don't be angry, don't be angry, your husband is still injured." Shen Li patted him on the back to help him catch his breath. "As long as we survive, everything will be alright."
Such a commotion from the other party is a desperate act, and would constitute a huge offense.
"Ah Li, are you hurt, Ah Li?" Gu Chang'an's eyes almost turned red when he saw that she was covered in blood.
His Ah Li is a young lady from a noble family, a lady of high rank, how could she suffer like this?
Shen Li shook her head repeatedly: "Husband, you are overthinking it. Who could possibly hurt me? This is their blood, I'm perfectly fine."
Because her back was to the cave entrance, Gu Chang'an couldn't see her pale face clearly. He was slightly relieved, but he still couldn't help but keep looking at her, trying to see if there was anything she hadn't said.
"Husband, you'll feel better soon after taking the medicine." Shen Li held his hand and asked with a smile, "Are you hungry now?"
