Chapter 220 The Two of Us Alone (1)
"Emilia, can I have some time alone today?"
Emilia stood frozen in place, her confident demeanor crumbling instantly, replaced by confusion and hurt. Maya's request caught her off guard, leaving her speechless for a moment.
This was the first time she had encountered such a situation, and she couldn't help but widen her eyes.
Maya sensed her friend's emotional turmoil and gave an apologetic smile: "I'll contact you later, okay?"
"Wait......"
Before Emilia could react, Maya had already turned and left, hastily departing the scene. A sense of confusion filled the air, and Emilia felt a vulnerability she had never experienced before.
She was filled with questions and couldn't understand what had just happened; it was all too strange to her.
Alex and Chris watched this scene with satisfaction, their smiles growing even brighter as Emilia's haughty demeanor crumbled.
"Looks like the haughty young lady has finally learned her lesson," Chris teased, nudging Alex with his elbow.
Embarrassed by Maya's refusal, Alex forced a smile: "Yes..."
"Humph!"
Emilia wasn't one to sit idly by; she wanted to teach these guys a lesson and show them who was in charge. She was furious at being abandoned like this, and now these guys dared to mock her to her face, which made her extremely unhappy.
But just as she was about to act, she stopped and saw the number "29" on Chris's shirt, which was his ranking in the second year.
Realizing this, she had no choice but to back down, and she couldn't cause trouble, as that would violate the academy's rules and benefit no one.
Most importantly, she now needs to figure out what exactly happened to Maya.
Emilia quickly packed her things and followed the route Maya had taken. Her footsteps echoed through the corridors as she walked through the academy, her mind filled with confusion, hurt, and a strong determination to uncover the reason behind Maya's sudden request to be alone.
As she approached the exit of the college building, she caught a glimpse of Maya disappearing around the corner.
Mayana's purplish-pink hair swayed gently with her steps, and Emilia quickened her pace to keep up.
The corridors are now empty; most students are either rushing to their next class or resting after class.
"Where is she going?" Emilia couldn't help but ask herself.
Maya's direction was unclear, but she moved quickly, eager to get somewhere.
This mystery only fueled Emilia's curiosity. Had Maya encountered something unpleasant? Or was she troubled by something personal? Emilia's thoughts raced as she tried to find the answers.
She wanted to know everything about Maya—what she was doing, where she was going, and who she was going to see. Because that was her Maya.
After walking for a while, Maya arrived at the academy's training ground, which was usually empty at this time.
But this wasn't the elemental chamber where she usually practiced magic; it was a place where students trained their melee skills.
"Why is she here?" Emilia wondered.
As far as she knew, Maya rarely appeared in the training room outside the elemental chamber. She possessed a special [passive skill] that allowed her physical strength to increase as her magic level rose.
Emilia kept a certain distance, while Maya surveyed the training ground with a thoughtful expression.
Bathed in the soft light of the setting sun, long shadows were cast across the open ground of the training field.
"Excuse me, what do you need?"
Emilia's thoughts were interrupted by the sudden appearance of a staff member.
"Please don't mind me, I'm just looking for a friend," she quickly explained.
"You are......"
"Don't worry about me, I don't need anything." She refused the staff's offer and quietly followed behind Maya, hiding herself.
Then, following her to a corner of the training ground, Maya's gaze was fixed on a solitary figure in the distance.
As Maya approached, the figure's identity became clearer: it was her junior, Morse Scott.
He was focused on training, his dagger flashing as he engaged in fierce combat with the mannequins around him.
'Is he fighting a phantom puppet?' Emilia wondered.
It's not common to see first-year students fighting against phantom golems, and even second or third-year students would find it difficult for most.
Morse focused intently on his fight against the phantom puppet, each movement precise and deliberate. The dagger in his hand danced like a ballet, tracing precise arcs, moving with ease amidst the chaos, effortlessly anticipating and countering the puppet's attacks.
Maya and Emilia observed him silently, their eyes fixed on him. Maya was completely absorbed in observing Morse, while Emilia was more focused on Maya.
'Why is Maya looking for him?' Emilia asked herself, feeling uneasy as she watched Maya stare so intently at Morse.
A few minutes later, Morse stopped, panting, satisfied with the training of the phantom puppet, and the magic dagger disappeared into the air.
Then, Maya approached him with a beautiful smile that Emilia had never seen before—a smile that was both ethereal and genuine.
'What are they talking about?' Emilia wondered curiously.
Although they couldn't hear each other's conversation, Morse stood up and the two walked together deeper into the academy.
Emilia followed behind them. The special training room there was known for its soundproofing and was located in a secluded area, away from the noise of the main training ground.
'They went in?' Emilia asked herself.
As Maya and Morse entered one of the training rooms, Emilia hid in the shadows, cautiously peeking through the slightly ajar door.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing. The Maya she knew had gone into the training room alone with a boy?
'I must know what happened inside,' Emilia vowed to herself.
She pressed herself against the doorway, straining her ears to try and eavesdrop on their conversation, but the thick walls inside the room made it impossible to hear anything.
Emilia's face was filled with frustration, and the desire to understand what had happened between Maya and Morse tormented her, intensifying the curiosity that had brought her here.
After a brief moment of tense eavesdropping, Maya's privacy was well protected in the soundproof training room, and Emilia eventually left reluctantly.
Her footsteps echoed softly on the smooth floor, the unresolved question lingering in her mind, plunging her into a state of uneasy contemplation.
'Do they have something important to discuss privately?'
She was filled with doubt, her thoughts racing like a whirlwind.
Maya and Morse were shrouded in a mysterious mist, and when she left the training room, she couldn't shake the feeling that Maya's world was far more complex than it appeared on the surface.
Unbeknownst to her, another student was observing everything from a distance using his monocle.
......
After returning from Siux, Morse adjusted his training plan and began to increase the intensity of training based on the new skills. Since obtaining the Radiance of the Sky, he found that the original training intensity was not as effective.
Therefore, he decided to increase the intensity and ordered some weighted wristbands to help improve his training results.
Today, the instructor ended the class early, so he decided to challenge the Phantom Puppet again to see how much he had improved.
He continued until he felt two pairs of eyes watching him. The first was from Senior Maya, who made no attempt to hide herself.
As for the other one, she was farther away from Morse, and his identity was unknown; moreover, her stealth skills were quite proficient.
'At least a second-year student,' he guessed.
Morse didn't care and remained focused on fighting the phantom golem, but he couldn't defeat it while wearing the weighted bracelet.
Even so, while wearing the weighted bracelet, he could clearly feel his progress, and his dagger skills had now reached the expert level.
"Junior, are you free?" Just then, Maya walked over. She was a little anxious, with unease in her eyes. She was enduring some kind of pain, her legs were trembling slightly, and her mouth was drooling involuntarily.
"Have?"
“Then…can we talk privately?” When she said this with that expression, Morse immediately understood what she meant.
"I understand."
