Chapter 193 Captain's Room
Chapter 193 Captain's Room
Yan Xun followed Wen Yuanzheng, and the two of them arrived at the captain's cabin.
Wen Yuan was still a little nervous when he knocked on the door.
'Don't worry, he won't do anything,' the old man comforted Wen Yuanzheng in his heart.
Wen Yuanzheng naturally trusted the old man. He was just about to knock on the door when Yan Xun grabbed his arm—
"Won't the captain be angry if we come straight here like this?"
It seems his underling is still not at ease. Wen Yuan thought to himself, but that's normal. After all, in a dungeon, randomly interacting with NPCs could trigger a death flag.
"It's alright." Wen Yuan smiled confidently. "The captain definitely won't be angry."
As he spoke, he knocked on the door of the captain's cabin.
A moment later, the two heard heavy footsteps, followed by a series of coughs. Then the door to the captain's cabin was opened, and the one-eyed man that Yan Xun had seen before stood in the doorway.
He sized up Yan Xun and Wen Yuanzheng. "Is there something you need?"
Following the old man's instructions, Wen Yuan began to praise the captain, saying that the reason he came to the Terror Ship was because he had heard of the captain's reputation and wanted to meet his idol.
Yan Xun glanced at Wen Yuanzheng after hearing his words.
He knew the captain's background, and Wen Yuanzheng's words would arouse the captain's suspicion no matter how he listened.
As expected, after hearing Wen Yuanzheng's words, the one-eyed man not only did not smile, but also scrutinized the freckled little man from head to toe with a harsh look.
Even in that instant, he had already wondered if this person knew about his pirate origins.
Wen Yuanzheng naturally felt the captain's scrutiny... He felt inexplicably uneasy, and when he looked up at the captain again, he saw the captain give a smile, "Then come in and have a chat."
He then looked at Yan Xun, "And you?"
"You admire me too?" the captain asked with a half-smile.
“I came with him,” Yan Xun said.
One-Eyed didn't know whether to believe it or not. He looked at Yan Xun for a while, then seemed to remember something, "You're Ke Lun's neighbor?"
Yan Xun nodded.
"I wanted to make some money, and I heard that the Terror was recruiting crew members, so I asked Coron for help."
The captain seemed to have lost interest in Yan Xun. He waved his hand, turned around, and the two followed him into the captain's cabin.
“I remember seeing you just now.” The captain found a fur-covered chair and sat down.
"I've cleaned the captain's cabin."
"How does it feel?"
“Lots of books,” Yan Xun said.
The captain was fiddling with his cigarettes... Hearing Yan Xun's words, he looked up at Yan Xun and asked, "You can read?"
Yan Xun smiled confidently, "I know a little bit."
“I heard from Corin that you are illiterate.”
Yan Xun then lowered his head, "...I really only know a little bit." He looked at the captain, "I can only write my own name."
Wen Yuan, who was listening nearby, almost couldn't hold back his laughter.
Fortunately, the captain was probably just asking Yan Xun casually, and he quickly turned his attention to Wen Yuanzheng.
He inquired about Wen Yuanzheng's background and the reasons why he admired him.
Wen Yuan was an apprentice at a bakery in Cedar Harbor. Because his wages were pitifully low, he decided to risk going on a whaling ship. He admired the captain because he had heard that the Terror Ship always made a catch every time it went to sea.
To put it bluntly, they just wanted to make money and, incidentally, curry favor with the captain.
The captain, with a cigarette dangling from his lips, watched Wen Yuanzheng and Yan Xun. After a while, as if he had lost interest, he casually waved his hand and said, "You are free to look around, but don't touch anything in the room."
The two nodded.
Yan Xun stood there for a while, then looked at the ground as if searching for something.
"What are you looking for?" the captain asked.
Did you lose something while cleaning?
Yan Xun shook his head. "My friend found a silver coin with a moon design in the storeroom." He looked at the captain. "Corren said that's a sign of heresy. He told us to look around the ship again to prevent heretics from doing evil."
The captain had obviously heard about it from Coron, and he didn't seem surprised; he simply nodded.
"I won't have any problems here."
"They dare not come in."
Yan Xun looked a little puzzled, probably because the captain realized that this crew member wasn't very bright, so he patiently explained, "This room has been blessed by the Sun God, so those heretics dare not enter."
He snorted as he spoke, "Don't let me discover any trace of the heretics."
Yan Xun then revealed a hint of fear. He looked somewhat uneasy, which was consistent with the captain's impression of Coron's neighbor.
Wen Yuanzheng was already immersed in the joy of discovering the hidden mission. He was worried that Yan Xun and the captain would discover his purpose, so he pretended to be visiting the captain's cabin and soon came to the table.
Yan Xun noticed that the captain's body was somewhat tense, and he even adjusted his sitting posture, as if he would throw Wen Yuanzheng overboard to feed the fish if Wen Yuanzheng did anything wrong.
Wen Yuanzheng didn't know if he was being careless or if he really thought the NPCs in this instance were like those in the games he had played before, only engaging in mechanical dialogues.
He glanced at Yan Xun and the captain out of the corner of his eye, then slowly walked to the captain's desk and his gaze lingered on the letters.
Then he looked away again and continued to look at everything around him.
As he turned around, he uttered the key word "blue gold," just as the old man had instructed.
The next second, he received a hidden quest.
Wen Yuan was overjoyed and even more certain that the old man would not deceive him... He turned around and lingered in the captain's cabin for a while before walking to the captain's side, saying that he had finished his tour and then wanted to leave.
The captain extinguished his cigarette.
He used his remaining eye to scrutinize Wen Yuanzheng for a few moments, then gave a cryptic smile. "What were you looking at just now?"
"Are you looking at my letter?"
Yan Xun stood aside without saying a word, while Wen Yuanzheng naturally gave a similar explanation to Yan Xun, saying that he couldn't read or anything... However, the captain probably didn't believe him. He just glanced at Wen Yuanzheng a few times, and finally waved his hand impatiently as if he had lost interest.
Wen Yuan hurriedly pulled Yan Xun away.
He finally breathed a sigh of relief after leaving the captain's cabin.
"What were you looking for just now?" Yan Xun suddenly asked.
Wen Yuanzheng stiffened for a moment, then turned around and saw Yan Xun, whom he was pulling, looking at him with some curiosity.
"Did he find out?" Wen Yuan asked the old man in his heart.
"No," the old man said, "he can't find it."
'When you mentioned Blue Gold, you weren't facing him.'
Wen Yuanzheng reviewed his actions and realized that he had indeed not revealed any purpose.
Yan Xun might have thought his behavior was a bit strange—he inexplicably came to the captain's cabin looking for clues, and in the end found nothing—but Wen Yuanzheng felt that his little brother wasn't that smart and definitely wouldn't find out.
“I’m looking for some clues,” Wen Yuanzheng said. “But when I looked at the letter, I couldn’t recognize any of the writing.”
He remembered that Yan Xun had cleaned the captain's cabin, and he was still a little worried, but he couldn't help but probe, "Did you see those letters?"
Yan Xun nodded.
"The text above seems to be encrypted," he said to Wen Yuanzheng with some distress. "I can't understand what it says."
Wen Yuanzheng finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Forget it, let’s look for traces of the heretics elsewhere.” He then said to Yan Xun, “It seems there really are no clues in the captain’s cabin.”
